English Learner Information

Students who are English learners (EL) participate in appropriate programs of language assistance to help ensure that they attain English proficiency, develop high levels of academic attainment in English, and meet the same academic content and academic achievement standards that all students are expected to meet. Participation in these programs can improve students’ English language proficiency which, in turn, has been associated with improved educational outcomes.

The EL program is expanding in the Lorain City Schools as our Spanish-speaking student population continues to grow each year. While our ultimate goal is to serve every student in his or her own home school, intensive curriculum is now offered at Frank Jacinto Elementary, Stevan Dohanos Elementary, Washington Elementary, General Johnnie Wilson Middle School, Southview Middle School, and Lorain High School.

Additional supports are provided by our valued community partnership with El Centro de Servicios Sociales of Lorain.
