We Want to Know What You Can Do!

Your child’s safety and academic progress are very important to us. Due to the extended interruption of in-person instruction, teachers need to know present ability levels of our students. Once we know where our students are academically, we can plan instruction to meet their unique needs. Additionally, State law requires a reading diagnostic assessment be administered in grades K-3 in order to identify students who are struggling so we come up with a plan to get them back on track.  We will administer the NWEA MAP Growth Assessment in both reading and math in grades K-5.

What is the NWEA MAP Assessment?
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth is a computer-adaptive test created by NWEA (Northwest Evaluation Association), which LCS students take in fall, winter, and spring.  The results provide key insights into the strengths and weaknesses of each student.

How do students take the NWEA MAP assessment?
Your child will take the MAP Growth assessment at home (or in their remote learning environment) on their LCS provided device (laptop or iPad) during synchronous live sessions led by your child’s teacher or a test proctor from their school. During the assessment, students will access the test and have a communication channel open with their teachers. Teachers will give instructions and answer questions during the testing session.  Each test session will last between 40-50 minutes.

When will my student test?
The district testing window is September 24th through October 7, 2020.
More information about the testing date, time and how to get set up will be provided by your child’s school.

How can parents (caregivers) support students prior to the assessment?
Remember, this is not a test where your student is going to know every answer, this test is constructed in a way that students should not know every answer - so please remind your child it is OK if they don't know all the answers. Also, this assessment is not part of the student’s report card grade.

What is the parent’s (caregiver) role during the remote NWEA MAP assessment?
Your role is to ensure that your child is logged  onto the testing platform, and that your child has a calm and distraction-free space in which to take the test, such as a bedroom with a door that can close or a quiet corner of the dining room. During testing, please monitor your child to ensure they are trying their best and not receiving any outside help. If your child has questions during the test, please help your child communicate with the teacher via the live meeting.

What do I do if my student has a problem during the test?
The student should communicate all connection issues and may be directed to contact the help desk at (440) 830-HELP (4357).
