Chicago Native Is Next Rocket SRO

A new face will greet middle and high school students in Crittenden County tomorrow when Rick Coyle steps into the role of school resource officer (SRO) for the shared campus. Coyle, a Chicago native, moved to Crittenden County in 2019 after retiring from the Chicago Police Department after 28 years of service.

Coyle says he had visited the area many times prior to moving here, thanks to a friendship he had developed with a Crittenden Countian. When property became available, Coyle and his wife, Jami, jumped at the chance to relocate. “I really enjoy living here,” said Coyle. “It’s very peaceful.”

Providing a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors is a priority for Coyle, as is relationship building. “I want to be approachable, available, and a positive role model,” he said. Coyle added that he is excited to also be an active part of the Crittenden County community.

Current SRO James Duncan (who had previously covered all three schools) will now be primarily stationed at Crittenden County Elementary School, while Coyle will service Crittenden County Middle and High schools.
