We want to take a moment to share something extraordinary happening within our schools.

As you may know, we've steadfastly committed to fostering an environment where every student feels they truly belong. Since 2022, our attendance campaign, "You Belong Here," has been at the forefront of this mission. When the Cleveland Browns Stay in the Game Network joined us as a community partner in 2023, we didn’t move away from that message because we truly believe our students belong in our buildings.

But let's talk about what that really means beyond the numbers. Yes, when our Titans return on April 9, 2024, we will continue to push for 95% attendance. But the numbers don’t tell the whole story of what truly motivates us.

We are motivated by the moments – those little instances in our buildings that make every day worth it, moments that ignite a sense of joy, learning, and connection.

This past week, leading up to a well-deserved spring break, our schools have been buzzing with these moments. We want to take a moment to celebrate those moments as we wish you a happy spring break.
  • Larkmoor Elementary School: On Monday, volunteers from the American Red Cross engaged students with their Pillowcase Program, ensuring they were prepared for inclement weather. They took home a personalized pillowcase to build their personal emergency supplies.
  • Helen Steiner Rice Elementary School: Picture this – the gymnasium transformed into a real-life Mario Kart game! That’s what happened on Tuesday, and you should have seen the faces as students raced toward the finish line, laughter echoing.
  • General Johnnie Wilson Middle School: On Wednesday, an inspiring empowerment day gave students a day full of workshops and guest speakers who shared their journeys. READ MORE
  • Lorain High School: On Wednesday, a job fair at Lorain High School opened doors to future opportunities for our students and community members. READ MORE
  • District-Wide Performance: Finally, on Friday, together, we celebrated unity through music with a live-streamed performance of Bruno Mars's "Count on Me" that genuinely showed the harmony of Lorain City Schools.
These moments are not just about fun activities—in fact, they were much more than that. They are about building a sense of belonging. We want your child to wake up feeling enthusiastic, knowing that there is something special waiting for them at Lorain City Schools.

So, parents, as we continue our journey towards a 95% attendance goal, let's remember it's not just about the numbers – it's about the moments that shape our Titans' lives.  We can’t wait to see all our Titans on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, to create more moments.

EDUCATION SPOTLIGHT:
Count on Me Day in Lorain City Schools music first

Did you miss our performance of "Count on Me" by Bruno Mars?

You can relive the fun on our YouTube Channel, Lorain Schools TV 20.

Music teacher Shelli Boes sparked the idea to bring all students together for a grand performance, and our fantastic music team got together to make Count on Me Day happen in celebration of Music in
Our Schools Month, observed each March across the country.

We were also delighted to have arranger Benoît Barrail view the performance live from France. Following the performance, Barrail said to our community, "Thank you for your great job, and thank you to all the children, students and teachers, band directors, and choir directors. What a wonderful team!"
EDUCATION SPOTLIGHT:
Lorain City Schools readies for the total solar eclipse
Get ready to witness a celestial spectacle!

On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will sweep across the skies, and Lorain is at the heart of the action! While it falls during our Spring Break, we're not letting this cosmic event slip by without making it an unforgettable experience for our families.

Thanks to the incredible support from Nordon Corp., the US National Science Foundation, and the STEM Funders Network, we've secured solar eclipse glasses just for you! These glasses are the key to safely viewing the sun as it disappears behind the moon. It's like having your own front-row seat to one of nature's greatest shows!
