Summer Programming 2023


Lorain City Schools will offer all students unique camp and enrichment experiences this summer. Check out the complete list below. Student grade level is based on the grade students will enter in the 2023-2024 school year.

NOTE: ALL LORAIN CITY SCHOOLS BUILDINGS ARE CLOSED ON JUNE 19, 2023, IN OBSERVANCE OF THE JUNETEENTH FEDERAL HOLIDAY.
 
TRANSPORTATION IS AVAILABLE FOR PROGRAMS AT LORAIN HIGH SCHOOL AND WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THE REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS THE END OF THE DAY ON MAY 19, 2023. TRANSPORTATION WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS WHO REGISTER AFTER MAY 19, 2023.   
SAFETY TOWN | Safety Town is a course that teaches children safe practices at school and home. Safety Town is an excellent opportunity for children to explore their community through class activities while learning essential safety precautions. This program is for children entering kindergarten and first grade.
LOCATION: Lorain High School
WHEN: June 12 to July 17 (off June 19 in observance of Juneteenth and the week of July 4)

EL CENTRO SUMMER YOUTH CAMP | El Centro de Servicios Sociales offers a free youth summer camp where a summer of adventures and lessons that last a lifetime awaits. This camp is for kindergarten through 8th-grade students.

BOYS & GIRLS CLUB SUMMER PROGRAM | The BGCNEO Summer Program provides kids with an abundance of opportunities to stay active, maintain academic success, and explore additional activities in sports, the arts, and the outdoors. Campers who are part of the summer program also experience two weeks of Camp Invention. Lorain City Schools is partnering with the National Inventors Hall of Fame to provide their Camp Invention curriculum and materials. Lesson plans and materials are provided by the National Inventors Hall of Fame, and trained LCS Teachers and BGCNEO staff provide instruction.
Camp Invention is for K through 5th-grade students. After Camp Invention, students return to Boys & Girls Club programming until the scheduled end time.
LOCATIONS: Gen. Johnnie Wilson Middle School and Longfellow Middle School from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM; Admiral King Elementary School, Stevan Dohanos Elementary School, and Toni Morrison Elementary School from 8:30 AM TO 2:30 PM. Admiral King, Stevan Dohanos, and Toni Morrison are for K through 5th-grade students. GJW and Longfellow are K-8.

TGRG READING CAM| Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee is a state-mandated program to identify students from kindergarten through grade 3 that are behind in reading. Schools will provide help and support to ensure students are on track for reading success by the end of third grade. This session is only for students entering 4th grade who have not demonstrated grade-level reading ability in order to meet the requirements of Ohio’s TGRG. Identified students must attend the TGRG Reading Camp in order to be considered for promotion to the fourth grade.
LOCATION: Washington Elementary School
WHEN: June 12 to June 30 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM
ELIGIBLE STUDENTS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY THEIR SCHOOL BY LETTER.

LORAIN HIGH STUDENT WEB CORPS | Student WEB CORPS is a paid summer internship for Lorain High School students entering 11th-12th grades. Student WEB CORPS gives students web development, project management, and professional skills as they work in teams to develop a website for a mock small business or nonprofit. Local industry professionals serve as mentors, and students will earn up to $12.50/hour. Student WEB CORPS is a FREE TECH CORPS signature program sponsored by The Nord Family Foundation. All interested students must register with TECH CORPS and complete the Ohio Means Jobs application. Space is available for 25 students.

LORAIN HIGH CREDIT RECOVERY | Our Lorain High summer credit recovery program is a strategy that encourages students to re-take a previously failed course required for high school graduation and earn credit if the student completes the course requirements. Students who attend Credit Recovery can also take any makeup state test from June 26-June 30. This is for students entering 10th through 12th grades.

SUCCESS ACADEMY | Success Academy is excited to offer summer school for students. We will work on credit recovery, test prep, and credentialing exams.
