TRAVELING CLOTHESLINE PROJECT RAISES AWARENESS ABOUT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

April is Child Abuse Prevention & Sexual Assault Awareness Month. In honor of survivors of Sexual Abuse/Assault, the Traveling Clothesline Project is on display at Lorain High School this week to raise awareness to the staggering, mind-numbing statistics on violence against women. These T-shirts provide a tough, educational medium and healing tool for thousands of victims each year.

The Clothesline Project was brought to our district by The Nord Center's Sexual Assault Services. The T-shirst exhibited were created by survivors of sexual abuse/assault and their families in Lorain County. Each shirt tells a story of abuse, violence, and in many cases, hope. The exhibit include more than 100 shirts.

As viewers take in the colorful display, it's helpful and humbling to understand what each shirt color represents:

  • RED: Present Sexual Abuse
  • YELLOW: Physical Abuse
  • GREEN: Childhood Sexual Abuse
  • BLUE: Incest
  • PURPLE: Hate Crimes
  • GREY: Abuse against Mental Impaired
