Dear SVMS Parents,

The school year is indeed under way! We have been very busy, as we are administering our first round of i-Ready Math and Reading diagnostics. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning. The testing window is under way until September 30, 2021. Please contact your child’s content teacher to get answers about your child’s progress.

Interim Reports will be available to review in PowerSchool September 14, 2021. The end of the grading period is October 15, 2021. We encourage you to reach out to your student’s teachers via phone, email, Class Dojo, Clever and/or Google Classroom. If you do not know how to check on your child’s academic progress, are having trouble with your device/internet, and or need a Parent Portal Letter to access your student’s current grades in PowerSchool, please contact the school.

It is critical that we have your up-to-date contact information updated in FinalForms. The district has migrated to FinalForms as a means to help make the myriad of papers and documents that you ordinarily turn in at the start of each school year as easy and seamless as possible. In order to get started, just click on this link and click on “new account” under the parent icon to create an account and get up and running. This is a mandatory process for all families. You must create an account in FinalForms in order to submit the required EMA information, gain access to our student handbook, student code of conduct, etc. If you encounter any difficulties, don’t hesitate to stop in our Main Office and we can walk you through the process.

Parents please remind your students of the following: The doors open at 8:50 AM. While students wait for the doors to open, play-fighting will not be tolerated. Students have been seen play-fighting in the way of cars. This is an extreme safety hazard. Masks must be kept on covering the nose and mouth. Only students with a doctor’s note will be excused. Students must refrain from wearing slide shoes, bandanas, crop tops, tank tops, and having holes above the knees in pants. Students must be on time to class. Multiple infractions will result in disciplinary consequences. After school students are not to loiter around the school grounds. Unless there is permission to participate in a club, students are to go directly home. Students that participate in afterschool activities should not exit the building but report directly to their assigned area. 

Additionally, when picking up students, please refrain from parking in the middle of the roadway. Please pull over to the sides near the curbs. We ask that you pull up as best as possible near the curbs close to the front of the school to keep the traffic flowing. Cones are set out to prevent cars from making a U-Turn at the entry/exit drives to prevent congestion.
