LHS UPDATE: Sept. 10, 2021

LHS UPDATE: Sept. 10, 2021

Dear Titan Families!

It’s feeling like school is back in session! 50 degree nights, Friday night lights, Homecoming, and a student-led campus culture movement. Autumn is coming and Lorain High School is back! See below for more details of all the great things happened at LCS, and as always, GO TITANS!!

Attendance We need your student here, and we need them here by 7:15 AM at the latest! One thing COVID has taught us is there is no replacement for having your children in our classrooms and under our care. If they are here at school, on time, learning is optimized! Please do everything you can to make sure your student is here on time and ready to learn. We can’t wait to see them each morning.

FinalForms = EMA’s - We need your help! FinalForms is our new way to collect all of the “parent homework” you typically get on the first day of school. We have too many families who have yet to complete this important task. If you haven’t already, please click on this link in order to quickly get started creating a FinalForms account and complete the important (and legally required paperwork.) We must have this completed. If you run into questions or concerns, you can always stop in the LHS main office and get whatever help you need. We also have a FinalForms Hotline set up at 440-830-4024.

Masks Our students have been doing a great job wearing masks to help prevent the spread of COVID in our schools. Please remember you can always get the latest guidelines and updates on the COVID Dashboard at: lorainschools.org/COVID

Friday Night Lights Lorain High will play Bedford tonight at Bearcat Stadium (481 Northfield Road, Bedford OH, 44146). Gates will open to fans at 6:00 PM. If you plan on attending the game, you will need to purchase tickets online at https://bhsathletics.org/event-tickets UNLESS you are an LCS staff member. Bedford does not accept cash at the gate. Staff members will be admitted FREE for all Lake Erie League contests. Staff members must show their staff ID. Any student who plans to attend tonight’s football game at Bedford will need to have a student ID or a copy of their class schedule to get into the game unless accompanied by an adult. This will be required when attending a game at any Lake Erie League school.

Homecoming | Homecoming ticket sales will run September 6 - 17th. They can be purchased online at this link. Students who wish to purchase their tickets in-person (with cash or check made out to the Lorain City Schools), can do so after school on Wednesday, September 15th and Thursday September 16 from 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm in the cafeteria.

Text Notifications Did you know you can sign up to receive text messages from Lorain High? If you wish to receive text messages with important reminders and notifications from our school, be sure your cell number is entered into your child’s FinalForms account (instructions on updating your student's contact information can be found at this link) and that you have sent “Y” (or “yes”), via text message, to short code 67587.

oneLHS Next Friday, September 17th, we will be hosting our first oneLHS meeting. This will be a student led club that aims to empower our students to create a positive, productive, and peaceful narrative regarding our high school community. Our school culture and identity will be defined by our STUDENTS and SUPPORTED by our adults. Let your students’ voice be heard regarding the type of high school that THEY want to attend. Encourage them to attend the oneLHS breakfast on Friday morning. Details on registration will be shared via email next week.

Craig Wood’s Lake Erie Ecology class

Curriculum Highlight

Craig Wood’s Lake Erie Ecology class had its first field experience on Thursday, Sept. 9. This is an exciting new science elective that was proposed last year. Mr. Wood has coordinated a partnership with the Lorain County Metro Parks and designed a variety of site-based lessons and field experiences, allowing students to study our area’s most important natural resource — Lake Erie — up close and personal. Students who complete this course will automatically earn the LHS Community Service graduation seal.

As always, you can reach me directly at [email protected].

Best,

Patrick Coleman

Principal - Lorain High School
