Young Scholars Program Parent Info Sessions

 

The Ohio State University, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Young Scholars Program (YSP) is currently recruiting 8th grade students! During this exciting recruitment season, we are seeking academically-talented students who aspire to pursue a college education, and who could benefit from receiving coaching and development throughout their high school experience.

To be eligible for the Young Scholars Program, students must:

= Be currently enrolled in Lorain City Schools in the 8th grade

= Be a first generation college student (parents have not completed a bachelor’s degree)

= Meet income guidelines (demonstrate significant financial need)

= Have a 3.3 minimum unweighted cumulative GPA

= Have a strong interest in attending college

= Attend 2-3 mandatory meetings per month and on-campus residential programs

= Complete a rigorous college prep curriculum

The Young Scholars Program (YSP) works with academically talented, first generation students with high financial need from 9 urban districts in Ohio. We work with students from 8th grade through their graduation from The Ohio State University. We provide students planning tools for college preparation, assistance with the transition from high school to college, and coaching and resources to support their undergraduate success. Young Scholars who successfully complete the pre-college program and meet The Ohio State University admission requirements are offered a need-based financial aid award which includes the Young Scholars Scholarship.

Potential students and parents are encouraged to attend upcoming recruitment sessions at Longfellow Middle School on Thursday, January 9 from 4-5 pm, Southview Middle School on Thursday, January 16 from 5-6 pm, and Southview Middle School on Thursday, January 23 from 6-7 pm.
