January Parent Letter

Message from the Principal John Monteleone

Dear Garfield Parents,

I hope that each of you enjoyed a wonderful winter break and time together as families. As the third quarter begins we're are continuing our journey to success, ready to make every minute count. We have had a great end of the calendar year at Garfield Elementary. Students have come to school ready to learn and display proper kindness towards themselves and others. Our staff is working hard to create new learning activities for our students. I have had the opportunity to observe many classrooms and review a great deal of student work and data.  As a result of these experiences, I have been able to see that there is quality education going on at Garfield Elementary. We will work hard to ensure that this quality continues throughout all that we do in the second half of the year.

In addition to providing a strong focus on academics, we also work very hard at making our school a safe and caring environment for both students and staff. While we continually get positive feedback regarding the climate in our school, we want to continue to make a special effort each year to reduce disruptive behavior in our school. Our goal is to create a greater awareness within our students, staff, and parents as to this behavior and what we can do to eliminate this in our school environment.

We have had a great start to the new school year and we are confident that this will continue throughout the year. With students, staff, and parents working together, great things will continue to happen for students in our school. I appreciate the opportunity to work with your children daily.

Respectfully,

Mr. Monteleone

Working Together to Prevent the Spread | No one plays a more important role in our children’s lives than parents and guardians. Therefore, we must work together to prevent the spread of COVID and continue our ongoing emphasis on health and safety. As a school, we will begin our new year by asking parents to assist us in promoting and reinforcing our 3B’s of positive behaviors: Be Kind to Self, Be Kind to Others, Be Kind to our Environment by washing up, backing up, and masking up.

2nd Quarter Report Cards | Parents, just a reminder that 2nd quarter report cards were made available through PowerSchool on December 22nd with your parent login. If you would like a printed copy, please call or email our school and we will print one to send home with your child.

Girl Scouts of North East Ohio | Thanks to generous funding, GSNEO has been able to offer FREE Girl Scout programs to girls in grades K – 5th grade and we have had a wonderful experience – throughout the pandemic. This free program provides Girl Scout membership, uniform pieces, program supplies, a program facilitator, and snacks. This year, GSNEO will explore space.

Plans for after-school programming will begin in February. They have been very successful this year by offering safe and in-person after-school programming in several school districts through sanitizing, masking, and social distancing. Parents if you are interested in having your child participate, please be on the lookout for further information.
