BACK TO SCHOOL 22/23: TRANSPORTATION SERVICES EXPANDED TO ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES K-12

July 5, 2022 | Lorain City Schools will expand transportation services to all students who live more than 2.0 miles from school, regardless of grade, starting with the 2022-2023 school year.

When students return to Lorain City Schools in August, hundreds more will be eligible for free, reliable bus transportation from the district’s transportation partners at Auxilio. Lorain City Schools strives to be efficient and respectful with taxpayer dollars by providing busing services to students, now expanding eligibility to include students in grades K-12 who reside beyond 2.0 miles from school and/or who have special needs identified through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP).

The Board of Education approved the district’s policy change to allow for expanded busing during a special meeting on July 5, 2022.

Superintendent Dr. Jeff Graham said Auxilio will provide the service to students at no charge to families.

The Board of Education approved a contract with Auxilio for the 2022-23 school year in May after Auxilio provided a bid that included a $1.6 million savings to the district.

“Even by expanding services, we will still see cost savings from our previous transportation contact by about $1.5 million,” Graham said. “We can provide better service and still save money.”

New for the 2022-2023 school year, we have established 17 bus stops around the city that will be used for morning and afternoon pick-up and drop-off for our high school students. This will allow high school students who live two or more miles away from Lorain High to catch a bus close to home on a consistent schedule that will get students to school on time every day.

We want to alleviate some of the stress of transportation for our families, and we hope this helps.

To see a complete list of bus stops and request transportation for your high school student, visit lorainschools.org/transportation. Families will need to fill out the request form and return it to the district's Transportation Department.
