SVMS Virtual Newsletter | October 2020

October 2020

Dear SVMS Parents,

The school year is indeed under way! We have been very busy, as we are administering our first round of i-Ready Math and Reading diagnostics. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning. The testing window will take place from Wednesday 9/23/2020 to 10/13/2020. Please contact your child’s content teacher for more specific dates and times and to get answers about your child’s progress.

Additionally, due to the complexities presented by the pandemic, we are not issuing interim reports. We will be issuing report cards the week of October 26th. The 1st Quarter ends on October 16thHowever, it is important that you are aware of your child’s academic progress now. We encourage you to reach out to your student’s teachers via phone, email, Class Dojo, and or Google Classroom. If you do not know how to check on your child’s academic progress, are having trouble with your device/internet, and/or need a Parent Portal Letter to access your student’s current grades in PowerSchool, please contact the school and ask to speak to one of the following:

Mr. Lorko-Guidance Counselor

Ms. Cheers-Assistant Principal for Students with Last Names starting with A-L

Ms. Morgan-Assistant Principal for Students with Last Names starting with M-Z

Mr. Williams- Principal

We plan to have a Virtual Award Ceremony celebrating all of our students’ academic accomplishments tentatively on
