2020 OHIO SCHOOL BREAKFAST CHALLENGE ALL-STARS
Congratulations to the Lorain City Schools buildings who were recently recognized as "All-Stars" by the Ohio Department of Education, United States Department of Agriculture, American Dairy Association Mideast, Action for Healthy Kids Ohio, Children's Hunger Alliance and the School Nutrition Association in Ohio.
These Ohio School Breakfast Partners recognized 307 Ohio schools--representing 63 districts-- for achieving one or more of five levels of school breakfast participation. These schools were awarded for demonstrating a collaborative best practice to create, enhance or expand school breakfast throughout their buildings.
The Ohio School Breakfast Challenge is a statewide challenge to increase access and student participation in the School Breakfast Program, ensuring Ohio students start each day ready to learn.
Of the 307 schools who received this award in the state, only 43 were recognized with the highest honor of being a platinum 'All-Star' and 75 were recognized as gold, based on their average daily participation (ADP). Those buildings receiving platinum honors showed an 80 percent or higher ADP and gold a 70-79 percent ADP.
Collectively, these 307 schools served over 3 million breakfasts in the months of January and February, this year, with approximately 87,000 meals served to their 150,000 students – an average of 67 percent of students ate breakfast every day.
