SVMS Virtual Newsletter | January 2021

January 2021

Dear SVMS Parents,

Happy New Year! Our Phase 2 started January 11th and we have made the transition to hybrid learning, teaching
in-person to student cohorts in the classroom as we continue to Zoom and instruct students at home remotely.

Unfortunately I regret to inform you that our Assistant Principal Melissa Cheers- Students with Last Names of A-L has
taken another position within the school district and we wish her all the best. Assistant Principal Melissa Morgan will
now assume the point of contact for her former caseload of students. Additionally, if you have any questions about 504
plans and or Response To Intervention (RTI), please contact me, Mr. Williams-Principal SVMS.

This week we will start administration of our I-Ready Diagnostic in the areas of Math and ELA. The Math Diagnostic
will take place Tuesday January 26th from 9:00am to 12:00pm.
The ELA Diagnostic will take place Thursday
January 28th from 9:00am to 12:00pm .
Students will report to 1st period and stay there until 12:00pm. Students will
report to their last period class as usual on these days.

The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a
student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in
slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones. The purpose of this is not to
give your child a score or grade but to determine how to best support their learning. The testing window will take
place from January 25th to February 12th. Please contact your child’s content teacher for more specifics such as
make up testing, and to get answers about your child’s progress.

Finally, student-athlete COVID testing takes place on Thursdays from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Student Non-athletes will
soon have an opportunity to test at the school as well. Here is a link to the consent form: Student Covid Test consent form

If you have any questions, please contact us at 440-830-4280.

Respectfully,

Paul Williams
Principal
Southview Middle School
