Lorain City Schools is pleased to announce that veteran educator and
leader Amy Graves has been selected to lead Admiral King Elementary
School for the 2019-2020 school year.
Graves brings years of administrative experience as both a dean of
scholar and family engagement at Garfield Elementary, and assistant
principal at Larkmoor Elementary, as she begins her new role as
turnaround principal. She has also been an academic instructional coach
at Garfield, Larkmoor, Washington, Toni Morrison, and Admiral King
Elementary schools. She brings with her a proven track record of
success, maximizing the effectiveness of educational programs and
building cultures that encourage continuous improvement for teachers and
students.
Graves replaces former Admiral King Elementary Principal Lori Witt
who resigned in July to be closer to family. Witt recently accepted a
principal’s position with Newton Falls Exempted Village Schools.
Graves began her career in the classroom, with the Plain Local School
District, as a kindergarten teacher before coming to Lorain City
Schools in 1998 and has taught nearly all grade levels K-6.
“Amy inspires staff, students and those around her to want to do and
be better,” Garfield Elementary School Turnaround Principal Megan Young
said of her former dean. “She is very much ready to step into the role
as turnaround principal within Lorain City Schools. Admiral King is
fortunate to be getting such a dedicated, hard-working and passionate
leader,” Young added.
Graves is eager to hit the ground running with the administrative
team that is already in place at Admiral King Elementary, emphasizing
how happy she is that her leadership journey has led her to the school.
A place that feels much like home, she said.
“From the hallways, to the classrooms, to the playground it feels
like a perfect fit,” Graves said of her new building. “I am so proud
that my career has kept me in Lorain for over 21 years and that my first
position as building principal is here in Lorain. Our motto for this
year is Together Everyone Achieves More (T.E.A.M.) at Admiral King and
we are going to make sure that every minute that our scholars are in our
building matters.”
Chief Schools Officer Dr. LaKimbre Brown noted Graves’ enthusiasm,
confidence and knowledge of the district, and community, as driving
factors that will lead to undoubted success for her scholars.
“Amy Graves’ vast experience with Lorain City Schools more than equips her to step into the position of principal,” Brown said of the veteran leader. “We value her years of commitment to the district and know she will continue to push Admiral King forward on its path of continued success."
