Myron (Ron) Mager

Myron “Ron” Mager’s life and career reflect a deep commitment to education, leadership, and service—qualities that have shaped generations of students and strengthened every community he has touched. A proud product of South Lorain, Ron’s early years were filled with friendships, neighborhood pride, and formative experiences that would guide his path forward. His high school years were especially rich, marked by achievement, involvement, and a passion for learning and leadership. 

As a student, Ron excelled academically and was inducted into the National Honor Society. He was active in Math Club, Student Council, the school newspaper, booster club, and choir—where he served as choir president. He also worked the football concessions, demonstrating even then his willingness to pitch in wherever needed. Ron shined on the stage as well, earning the lead role in Bye Bye Birdie, one of his fondest memories. Athletically, he was a standout member of the Hot Stove Undefeated State Champion Baseball Team and played on two state championship baseball teams, achievements that remained lifelong points of pride. 

Ron continued his academic journey with purpose, earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in School Counseling from Kent State University. He later completed his High School Principal License at Ashland University, preparing him for a distinguished career in educational leadership. 

Across decades of service, Ron held nearly every role imaginable within a school system. He served as a home school counselor, home school liaison, junior high counselor, and senior high counselor. His leadership expanded as he became Dean of Students at Southview High School and later Assistant Principal at Lorain Middle School and Admiral King High School. Ron went on to serve as Principal of Vermilion St. Mary’s, where his steady guidance and student-centered approach left a lasting impact. His compassion extended beyond the school walls as well—he served as an aftercare grief counselor at Dovin Funeral Home, supporting families during their most difficult moments. 

Ron’s dedication to young people also flourished through athletics. He served as an assistant coach in basketball, football, track, and wrestling, shaping athletes with the same integrity and enthusiasm he brought to the classroom. He also served as Video Club supervisor and Key Club advisor, always encouraging students to explore their interests and develop leadership skills. 

A devoted community servant, Ron is a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club, where he served as president and continues to chair the scholarship committee—yet another way he invests in the future of young people. From South Lorain to school hallways across the region, from championship baseball fields to the principal’s office, Myron “Ron” Mager has lived a life defined by service, compassion, and leadership. His induction into the Hall of Fame honors not only his achievements, but the countless lives he has inspired along the way.
