Today, we kick off our inaugural Celebrate Lorain City Schools Week! This new tradition is more than just a celebration—it's an invitation to our entire community to come together and recognize the exceptional qualities that make our district truly special.

A Week of Honor and Welcome

Throughout this week, we'll be shining a spotlight on each of our 14 schools, our vibrant city, our talented students, our dedicated volunteers and partners, our supportive families, and our hardworking staff. But our celebration extends beyond our current Lorain City Schools family. We're also reaching out to those families in our district who have chosen alternative educational paths for their children. We warmly invite you to come home and rediscover the many reasons why Lorain City Schools stands out.

Exceptional Opportunities Await

Our district takes pride in offering a wide array of enriching opportunities for students at every level:

  • Free, all-day preschool and kindergarten programs
  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) programs are available from PreK through 12th grade in every building
  • On-campus Career Technical Education with 14 pathways to choose from
  • Early College and CCP
  • Free drivers education
  • Comprehensive wraparound services to support student success
  • A new intramural sports program fostering inclusivity and participation
  • Robust athletic programs that build teamwork and school spirit

Join the Celebration

The highlight of our week will be the Celebrate Lorain Fall Fest on Thursday, October 3, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. We encourage everyone to attend this community-wide event and experience firsthand the spirit of Lorain City Schools.

We'll end the week with our homecoming parade on Friday, featuring students from all of our schools. Following the parade, we invite you to join us in cheering on our Titan football team at our homecoming game. It's the perfect opportunity to show your support and experience the energy and enthusiasm of our school community.

As we embark on this new tradition, let's come together to celebrate not just our schools, but our entire community. This district and community hold a special place in my heart, and I am thrilled to celebrate with you all week long.

Come home to Lorain City Schools—where exceptional education and community spirit unite!

Titan Pride Shines Bright: Lorain High School Students Speak Out

As we kick off Celebrate Lorain City Schools Week by honoring our buildings, Lorain High School stands tall, brimming with Titan pride. In a recent survey, LHS students shared why they're proud to be Titans, painting a vivid picture of a school that's more than just bricks and mortar—it's a thriving community of diverse, ambitious, and supportive individuals.

A Mosaic of Diversity and Inclusion

At the heart of Titan pride is the school's remarkable diversity. Students consistently praised the inclusive atmosphere, where differences are celebrated and everyone feels at home. "It's like being part of a community," one student remarked, highlighting the sense of belonging that permeates the halls of LHS.

Opportunities Abound

Lorain High School is a launchpad for success, offering a wealth of opportunities that prepare students for bright futures. From College Credit Plus programs and career-focused electives to a wide array of sports and extracurricular activities, LHS ensures every Titan can find their path. "Our school provides us with unlimited opportunities to succeed," a student enthusiastically shared.

A Supportive Second Home

The dedication of LHS staff doesn't go unnoticed. Students repeatedly mentioned the supportive teachers and staff who go above and beyond to ensure their success. "Our teachers work to make our learning environment happy and interesting," one Titan noted, underscoring the positive atmosphere that makes LHS feel like a second home.

Excellence in Academics and Athletics

Titans take pride in their school's commitment to academic excellence and athletic achievement. With a stable graduation system, early graduation options, and a formidable sports program—including a much-celebrated football team—LHS students have plenty to cheer about.

The Titan Spirit

Perhaps most telling is the infectious school spirit that runs through the student body. "Titan Pride is a way of life," declared one student, capturing the essence of what it means to be part of the LHS family. This pride extends beyond school grounds, with students expressing love for their broader Lorain community.

As we celebrate our schools this week, it's clear that Lorain High School is not just educating students—it's nurturing future leaders, fostering a sense of community, and instilling a pride that will last a lifetime. In the words of one Titan, "It is just so fun to be a Titan!" And that enthusiasm speaks volumes about the special place that is Lorain High School.

ESOL English Classes for Parents

We've recently partnered with the Lorain County Community College Aspire Program to offer English language courses for parents. This program, which launched on August 20, 2024, represents a significant step towards empowering our non-English speaking families and fostering better communication between home and school.

Program Details

Start Date: August 20, 2024

Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays

Time: 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM

Location: Washington Elementary School

Provider: Lorain County Community College Aspire Program

These evening classes are designed to accommodate working parents, allowing them to improve their English skills after work hours. By holding the classes at Washington Elementary, we're making it convenient for parents to attend, especially those who may already be at the school to pick up their children.

Bridging Communities Through Language

This initiative goes beyond just teaching English; it's about building stronger connections within our diverse Lorain community. By improving their English skills, parents will be better equipped to:

  • Engage with their children's education
  • Communicate more effectively with teachers and school staff
  • Participate more fully in school events and activities
  • Increase their confidence in daily interactions within the community

Commitment to Inclusive Education

This program aligns perfectly with Lorain City Schools' commitment to inclusive education and community engagement. By investing in our parents' language skills, we're investing in the future success of our students and the strength of our school community.

Safety Matters

At Lorain City Schools, the safety and well-being of our students and staff are our top priority. With safety at the forefront of our national consciousness, we know that schools are a place where families expect a secure and supportive environment. That's why each week, you’ll find Safety Matters in our newsletter—a dedicated space to keep you informed about the steps we're taking to protect our school community. From updates on school security measures to important reminders about student wellness and emergency preparedness, Safety Matters will keep you connected to our ongoing efforts to create the safest learning environment possible.

This week, we’re highlighting these proactive measures we’re taking to keep our schools safe:

Election Day Closure: To prioritize safety, Lorain City Schools will be closed on Election Day, as some of our buildings serve as polling locations.

District Pressure Tests: We are conducting system-wide pressure tests to ensure our safety protocols and systems are functioning at peak readiness.

Community Safety Engagement: We encourage everyone to use the 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) tip line and tip411 as a way to report concerns and foster stronger relationships between our safety team and the community.

By working together, we can continue to create a secure and welcoming environment for all.
