Titan Grounds Brews Up Skills for Lorain High Students

Titan Grounds Brews Up Skills for Lorain High Students

Students in Megan Taliano's job training class at Lorain High School are getting a taste of the real world by launching their own coffee cart business.

Titan Grounds officially opened on Monday, offering hot tea and coffee exclusively to Lorain High teachers and staff. The cart will be open for delivery, pickup, and walk-in orders from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on school days. With a price tag of just $1 per drink, students are gearing up to stay as busy as the most seasoned barista.

The students worked hard on Friday, doing final equipment checks and gathering supplies. As they prepared, they reflected on the valuable lessons they are learning as budding entrepreneurs.

"We are learning kindness and why you have to show up," said student Josephine DelValle. "I have to be here because this is like a job."

Taliano emphasized that her class focuses on developing essential "soft skills," including communication, critical thinking, leadership, and work ethics. Students even practiced job interviews and filled out job applications to prepare them for future employment.

"We learned to be respectful, manage working with all people, and take care of work equipment," added Sergio Lopez, another student in the program.

Last year, students from the class gained work experience in the community at Lorain County Community College and the Friendship Animal Protection League.

"Next year, these current juniors will put all these skills into action in the community, building on what we learn here," Taliano said.

In the meantime, students are focused on perfecting their morning brews and mastering the art of customer service.

And with Titan Grounds brewing up more than just coffee, it's clear these young entrepreneurs will be serving up a success one cup at a time.
