Lorain School Board Vice President Barbie Washington recognized with multiple awards for board leadership, training and service

LORAIN, Ohio (Dec. 8, 2025) – Lorain City Schools Board of Education Vice President Barbie Washington was recognized Monday night by the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) for her commitment to board leadership, professional learning and service to students and the community.
Washington, a lifelong Lorain native, has deep ties to the district through her family and years of volunteer work. She has also been a steady advocate for family engagement and a return to local control, including her role as a founding member of It Takes a Village.
During the meeting, Northeastern OSBA Executive Committee President Deborah Melda presented Washington with several honors, including:
- Northeast Region Award for Board Excellence
- Master Board Member
- OSBA STAR Awards Program: Recognition Award
- OSBA STAR Awards Program: Training Award
- Roger Samuelson Award for Board Excellence
The Master Board Member Award is a lifetime OSBA distinction, earned by completing 300 Award of Achievement credits over a four-year period.
