Volunteer & Visit

Do you want to volunteer in one of our schools?

Wonderful! We appreciate you donating your time to our students. To ensure the safety of all of our students, volunteers must first pass a criminal background check, which includes submitting fingerprints, before they can begin. This process must be completed yearly.

HERE IS THE PROCESS
  • STEP 1 | Contact the building principal about getting the authorization form completed.
  • STEP 2 | Take the completed authorization form and a valid state ID to the Administration Center (2601 Pole Ave) Monday through Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM.  Please call 440-233-2271 before arrival.
  • STEP 3 | When you arrive at the Administration Center, fill out a fingerprinting release form and submit your fingerprints.
  • STEP 4 | Follow up with the building principal or program coordinator about when to begin volunteering.
Volunteers need to complete a new background check each year.
Background checks for volunteers are free of charge.

VISITORS POLICY

The Board encourages parents and other citizens of the District to be active participants in the education of our children through school visitations.

To ensure the safety and security of the school community and an orderly visitation process, the Board requires all community members to follow classroom, building, and District procedures when visiting schools. The District also reserves the right to decline visitation by any person who interferes with the educational process, invades the privacy of students, threatens the safety of any child or employee, or for any other reason deemed appropriate.

Whether attending an assembly, observing a classroom, or any other activity during the scheduled school day, all visitors must immediately report to the main office or other designated area to sign in upon entering a District building.

Parents and legal guardians may request a classroom visitation with their child at any time by reporting to the office and making a request to the principal or their designee. Upon approval, the parent or guardian will be required to sign in as a visitor and directed to the appropriate room by a school official.

Community members and others who request a visitation in a classroom other than their child’s room must complete the “Request to Visit” form at least two days in advance, which includes the number of visitors, frequency, duration, purpose, and visitor identification information. This does not apply to police, court representatives, or other persons acting in an official capacity. Upon approval and appropriate advance notice, community members and others should report to the office, sign in, and be directed by a school official to the appropriate location.

When possible, the principal will notify and/or confer with appropriate teachers when approving visitation requests.

Because of space restrictions, no more than two adult visitors will generally be permitted to observe a particular classroom at one time. Visitors must comply with safety procedures when visiting classrooms or other District facilities.

Appeals of visitation denial should be submitted to the Superintendent. Any unauthorized person on school property will be reported to the principal or Superintendent. The person may be asked to leave and/or the police contacted. Failure to leave when asked will subject the person to criminal charges.

Adopt-A-School

Lorain City Schools, in collaboration with the Ministry of Reconciliation & Northeast Ohio Adopt-a-School Network, aims to gather a group of volunteers to help serve and support our students and families in the district.

What is Northeast Ohio Adopt-A-School Network? It is an organization that unites with local churches, businesses, and organizations that want to make a positive difference in the lives of children, youth, and families by adopting a school in their community.

By adopting, they will provide tutoring, mentoring, career and college prep, healthy lifestyles, violence intervention and prevention, and more.

The Northeast Ohio Adopt-A-School Network's mission is to ensure that every Lorain City School is adopted, and we need your help to make this a reality. By showing our children and youth that we care, we can inspire them to reach their full potential. Remember, your contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in our community.

Lorain City Schools and Adopt-A-School Network's main focus is to help our students and families accomplish their goals and dreams by assisting them through their educational journey and beyond.

If you're ready to make a difference in the lives of our students and families, we invite you to visit www.ministryofreconicliationinc.com to learn more about how you can get involved. Together, we can build a brighter future for our community.
