Boys and Girls Club Virtual Learning Supports

Parents are you looking for a place for your student to go during the day while you work or a great learning pod environment. Here is a great opportunity.

The Boys and Girls Clubs (BGC) of Northeast Ohio and the Lorain City Schools (LCS) are pleased to announce that the BGC will serve as a support to LCS virtual learning initiatives beginning September 21st through three locations. This initiative will provide students in grades K-5 with a safe place to engage in remote learning with trained adults to access, complete and submit their academic requirements. The virtual learning centers will take place at the following locations:

  • Westview Terrace Club, 2218 W. 24th St., Lorain

  • Southside Gardens Club, 3010 Vine Ave., Lorain

  • Desich Campus Club, 4111 Pearl Ave., Lorain

Here's what you need to know:

  • Virtual learning centers will begin Sept 21st, during the hours of 8:30am – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

  • Space is limited, so please only sign up for these resources if needed.

  • Applications are being accepted at the Desich Campus, 4111 Pearl Ave. Lorain between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm.

  • You will be notified by phone if your child(ren) have secured a spot. Submitting an application does not guarantee a spot in the program.

COVID-19 SAFETY: Please note that all CDC recommendations for social distancing, sanitation and safety will be taken within our virtual centers. The safety of our children and staff are of the utmost importance. Students must wear a mask while at the virtual learning center. Please only send your child if they have a temperature under 100F degrees and are wearing a mask. We look forward to providing support to the families in this community and are here to answer any questions you may have. Please e-mail Amy Skolnik at [email protected] for more information or with questions.

The Lorain Public Library System has launched a tutoring program,
tutor.com, which connects students to more than 3,000 tutors and provides one-to-one homework help, video lessons and test prep for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, early college students and adult learners.

“We know that learners of all ages need access to real-time help, especially while many students are now learning remotely,” said Anastasia Diamond-Ortiz, director of Lorain Public Library System. “We think caregivers and parents will find
tutor.com to be a great resource to help their children with homework and building skills.”

The service is available to all library patrons. The program also offers writing help, test preparation for the ACT and SAT and has Advanced Placement (AP) course videos.

To access this service, patrons go to Lorain Public Library and click on the "tutor.com" link on the homepage. Tutors will be available seven days a week from 3-10 p.m.
