Warm, weather-appropriate clothing is about more than just being protected from the elements.
With a warm sweater, coat, hat, and gloves, every child can attend school even when the weather is treacherous. That is the mission behind Operation Share the Warmth, a simple gesture that lets every child know that they deserve to come to school every day without the worry of being cold because they will have appropriate clothing purchased with them in mind.
Operation Share the Warmth is a partnership program between Lorain City Schools and Lorain County Jobs & Family Services to provide up to 4,500 eligible children in Lorain County with $225 in FREE cold weather-appropriate clothing.
All families are encouraged to apply for this program by completing a PRC form and a Clothing Order form. These forms will be sent home with students by their teacher/school and should be returned to your child's school.
Both forms (PRC and Clothing Order Form) must be returned to the child’s classroom teacher. Eligibility will be determined by Jobs & Family Services. Families will be notified of how and when to pick up their children's clothing.
Lorain City Schools staff and volunteers will package the items and handle distribution.
How will families receive the application and order form? What is the application deadline?
- Application packets will be printed with all necessary information for families to complete and return. These will be distributed by each child's home school and should be returned to the front office.
Who is eligible for this program?
- All Lorain County school-aged youth (5-18) whose families meet the eligibility requirements can apply for Operation Share the Warmth. Families that receive assistance (TANF, SNAP, WIC, etc.) meet federal-income requirements for eligibility. A PRC form and Clothing Order form must be completed before distribution.
I have multiple children in the house and need more order forms. How do I sign them up?
- We want to ensure all youth who are eligible receive these clothes. Please get in touch with the school office for additional forms, or click Operation Share Forms
