Dance

Fine Arts | Dance. Exploring the world of dance through movement and creativity

The Lorain City Schools Dance Program is a comprehensive K-12 course sequence designed to educate the whole child with movement and creativity as a central focus.

Founded in the fall of 2022 as an answer to community interest, nine dance educators were secured to deliver holistic dance content to each of Lorain's 14 schools. With extensive support from the National Dance Education Organization, the Ohio Department of Education, the Ohio Arts Council, and the Lorain Board of Education, the dance teaching team is building a content continuum designed to make dance a vital and permanent part of the education of Lorain students.

ELEMENTARY
Students will have a comprehensive dance experience that builds year-over-year, emphasizing the elements of Body, Space, Energy, and Time; safe and healthy movements; and dance's social and emotional value worldwide.

MIDDLE
Students continue exploring creative dancemaking, begin basic style techniques, and discover dance's historical/cultural significance in societies.

HIGH SCHOOL
Students embark on an 8-semester sequence of courses that lead to the development of personal and collaborative choreographic projects and performances. Learning is supported by the study of past and present dance artists and traditions around the world.
