What's In a Name?

Admiral King Elementary is named in honor of Admiral Ernest Joseph King who was born in Lorain, Ohio in 1878. King was Commander in Chief of U.S. naval forces and Chief of Naval Operations throughout most of World War II. He masterminded the successful U.S. military campaign against Japan in the Pacific.

In his first address as Commander in Chief of the U.S. Fleet in December of 1941, he is quoted as saying, “The way to victory is long. The going will be hard. We will do the best we can with what we've got. We must have more planes and ships- at once. Then it will be our turn to strike. We will win through..in time.”  Click here to learn more about Lorain’s own Admiral King.
