Washington Elementary School
Named after our first president, Washington Elementary opened in April 2005, replacing the previous Washington Elementary building that faced Washington Avenue. That building opened in 1954 to accommodate Lorain’s ever increasing population due to the post WWII “Baby Boom.” It is designed to hold 450 students for an investment of $7.9 million, of which nearly 80% came from the state of Ohio.

A Football Program That's About More Than Football
LHS football players Sly Worthy, Carlos Chavis and Solomon Villarreal helped prepare for the grand re-opening of the Carnegie Building (the old library) on Sunday. This beautiful old building has been restored with most of its original furnishings. It is a huge piece of Lorain's history. It served as Lorain's library from 1903 until 1957. The involvement by these young men is another example of how our football program is about more than making a difference on the field--it's about making a difference in the community as well. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Elementary Buildings to House PreK-5 Next Year
For the past 2 months, Superintendent Jeff Graham has been meeting with a committee of stakeholders to help answer a long-standing question: Will LCS elementary schools continue to function as “neighborhood schools” serving PreK-5 next year? Or should they reconfigure as “cluster schools” in which buildings close to one another will split into grades PreK-2 and 3-5 sister schools?
Good Luck LHS Marching Band!
Please join us in celebrating our Lorain High School Marching Band, which has been selected out of hundreds of applicants to participate in Chicago's Festival of Lights Parade on Saturday, November 21st. Email your best wishes to band director Timothy Sivik, and stay tuned for photos!
