Uniform Policy
With the support and assistance of their respective communities, several Lorain City Schools
have developed uniform policies. These policies are in addition to the general requirements of the
Lorain City Schools Dress Code. Refer to your school office for up-to-date information on individual
uniform policies. The following schools enforce uniform policies:

Dress Code & Discipline

Visuals of Appropriate Attire

The Lorain City School Board policy stipulates that school clothing shall exhibit good grooming standards and not distract from the educational process. The dress code will be enforced to ensure a school climate which is most conducive to educating and to learning. The guidelines for determining what is appropriate for school are simple. If the clothing is too short, tight, ragged, revealing, controversial, or unsafe, it will be deemed inappropriate for school.

 Students are able to wear:

 Shirts

  • Students may wear crew neck t-shirts, polo-type shirts, or button-down front collar shirts
  • Shirts can be long sleeve or short sleeve, but no sleeveless – solid sleeves only
  • School related shirts will be allowed
  • Clothing with negative or inappropriate wording, logos or graphics will not be permitted
  • No oversized sports/other jerseys, t-shirts or shirts
  • Sweatshirts/sweaters may be worn

Pants

  • All pants must be belted or tightened at the waist – no sagging
  • Jeans are allowed with the exception of baggy jeans, hip-hugger or low-rise jeans – all skin must be covered
  • Shorts must be 2 to 3 inches above the knee or longer
  • Capri or crop pants are allowed

Skirts

  • Skirts must be 2 to 3 inches above the knee or longer
  • No slits above the knee allowed
  • Skorts must be 2 to 3 inches above the knee or longer

Shoes

  • Shoes or sneakers must be worn at all times
  • Sandals with heel straps are allowed
  • No flip-flops/slippers
  • No shoes without heel straps
  • All shoes with laces must be tied at all times

General Attire

  • Jackets and coats must be placed in student lockers prior to first period
  • No head gear of any kind such as hats, caps, bandannas, visors, sunglasses, nylon headwear  - head gear must be removed before entering the building - all head gear must be placed in student lockers prior to first period
  • Allowable head gear for girls – hair clips, scrunchies
  • No camouflage patterns
  • Torn, ripped, or cut-off clothing of any kind is not permitted
  • No attire, jewelry or accessories promoting or advertising drug, alcohol, vulgar language, sex, violence, or gang paraphernalia or of an offensive or disruptive nature will be permitted
  • Studded jewelry or chains which can become a threat to student safety are prohibited
  • No exposed undergarments – no bare midriffs or bare backs
  • No back bags or back pack style purses-only small purse style – all book bags/back packs must be placed in student locker prior to first period
  • No sleepwear
  • No towels or hand towels

Disciplinary Measures – Students violating the dress code will suffer the following outlined consequences:

 1st Violation – Verbal warning and parent contact and appropriate dress required before returning to class

2nd Violation – One detention and/or in school suspension and parent contact and appropriate dress required before returning to class

3rd Violation – Three detentions and/or in school suspension and appropriate dress required before returning to class

4th Violation – Three day suspension and appropriate dress required before returning to class

Persistent disregard of the dress code can result in a ten (10) day suspension and a recommendation for expulsion (Level III offense).
