Learning Adventures Lorain City Schools is the recipient of a Magnet Schools Assistance Program grant from the United States Department of Education, a total of $10.2 million over the next three years. The funds will be used to create arts programs at Lowell Elementary and Whittier middle schools, science classes at Garfield Elementary, math and music classes at Washington Elementary, literature classes at Masson and Toni Morrison Elementary schools, and an animation program at Gen. Johnnie Wilson Middle. To assist with the implementation of each magnet theme, the staff will consist of specialist teachers, who are experts in their fields. The magnet program will try to attract students from the area to reduce racial isolation, raise student achievement, and increase the variety of school choices that are available to parents. Magnet themes will be fully implemented for the 2008-09 academic year. |
