High School Graduation Requirements
|
The Board of Education desires that its standards for graduation meet the minimum standards of the Ohio Department of Education. The board further desires that our high schools compare favorably with other Ohio high schools recognized for their excellence. The minimum requirements for graduation from high school, beginning with the class of 2005, are as follows:
The District will accept credits earned toward graduation from any chartered school in the State of Ohio and from any out-of-state school approved by that state’s department of education and the equivalent for schools of a foreign country. Credits must be earned in grades nine through 12 to be included in calculating the 24 units required for high school graduation. Summer school credits will be accepted as credits toward graduation. Administrative approval must be given prior to registration for the course. Credit toward graduation may be earned through the Postsecondary Options program created through 3365.02 of the Ohio Revised Code. Procedures governing the assignment of credit must be established by the Superintendent working with representatives of participating colleges and or universities. High school courses offered through correspondence courses will be accepted for credit toward graduation only when they meet these criteria:
High school course offered through the United States Armed Forces Institute by cooperating colleges and universities will be accepted for credits toward graduation as follows:
Earning the approved credits is necessary but not sufficient to graduate from a District high school. In addition to satisfactory completion of units, a student must also successfully meet District competency requirements. All students must pass an Ohio graduation test in order to earn a diploma. The Board expects that at the time of graduation, each student will have fulfilled all academic and financial obligations. A good school record, scholastic and otherwise, is the best recommendation an applicant can offer, either to a college or to an employer. A record of good personal behavior and cooperation will be expected. [Adoption date: December 9, 1991; Revised July 21, 1997, March 11, 2002] |
